Over draft fees
This review is for: US Bank
I have had this account for almost a year and have been pretty happy with the service. The bank gives people with not excellent credit bank accounts which is really great, because so many people have not so good credit now. I had a account with another bank and lost my job and could not pay for something and it got close. So this is a new start for me. I love the debit cards you can get as well. I have the flexperks which gives you cash back on your purchases made with no pin. I love that! I really helps you save in the long run. There are also different checking and savings accounts that cater to your needs.
The things that i do not like about US bank are that they do not give you checks with your bank account, i know that checks are becoming null and void but, i still think that you should have the option to get free checks with the opening of a checking account, i still pay my rent with personal checks and am not comfortable enough to move to bill pay yet. Second and the main problem with US bank is the OVERDRAFT FEES, this is a HUGE ripeoff...... i don't know what to say other than, they charge you 37.50 for each item that is over drawn no matter how much the item is(i have been charged 37.50 for 2.50!) and after 7 days i believe, they start charging 8 dollars for every day you are overdrawn. I mean if you were overdrawn in the first place obviously you do not have extra money! This is ridiculous and they pay for everything! Which makes it even worse, so instead of paying say 200 dollars you owe like 700 with the fees. This is a rip off and they should not be allowed to do this to customers.

They Really Do Know Your Name!
This review is for: US Bank
This is a bank that has branches everywhere imaginable. I do my banking in a grocery store where they have an office. It is convenient, secure, and most of all, they call out my name as I approach the teller's desk to say hello. I have never before banked with people who are so friendly, helpful, and focused on the customer.
They walked me through all the different options available for setting up checking and saving accounts, helped me transfer a balance, and set up free auto-bill payments. I was given all the documents and information necessary to establish a new account in one simple 10-minute sitting. They even tailored my account so that I had access to what I needed online, with paper support for documentation I did not want to receive electronically. They went out of their way to make my experience enjoyable and easy.
There is something to be said for the trust that grows when bank employees get to know you on a first-name basis. I know that they value my business, that they will expedite my transactions, and work hard to fashion the best possible experience for me. I have become a loyal and very appreciative customer!

Too many fees
This review is for: US Bank
I've had a savings account at US Bank for about ten years. I initially chose this bank because of its convenient location. I don't drive, so location is very important to me.
Several years ago, for about two years, I also had a US Bank checking account. Then the bank chose to raise their checking-account fees substantially, and to start charging for services that had once been free. I didn't want to pay their increased fees. I went to the bank to close my checking account.
The representative I spoke with was rude. She was argumentative and condescending in her attempts to get me to keep my account open. She tried for several minutes to get me to change my mind, and she didn't smile even once. It was like she was trying to strong-arm me into staying. I just kept telling her I wanted to close the account, and finally she did her job. She didn't smile at me once the entire time, even before she knew why I was there.
Most of the tellers are very good. Occasionally, not enough employees are available and a bit of a line forms. Once, I had to wait so long that my account got credited with $5 as an apology. That was nice.
I've often been tempted to switch to a different bank that has more reasonable fees, but it's just easiest to stick with US Bank. However, I don't really recommend this bank to anyone else. I feel that you can do better by doing business with a bank that charges fewer fees.

A reliable bank with great customer service.
This review is for: US Bank
I’ve had a checking account with US bank for a little over two years now and I am a very satisfied customer. I was very unhappy with my previous bank because the monthly fees just to bank with them were getting so out of hand. A coworker suggested I look into getting a checking account at US bank where she had an account when I explained the problems that I was having with my bank, and the rest is history. I love the convenience of online banking and the fact that I can get free checks. The convenience of having several locations near my home was another factor in my decision to bank with US. I did have one issue with this bank when I had an overdraft fee that shouldn’t have occurred. I immediately took my bank statement into the bank and as soon as I pointed out the issue to the bank manager he took the time to remove the charges from my account personally. The customer service at US bank can’t be beat. Everyone is so friendly and helpful. And if I check my recent transactions, they post on my account almost immediately. So I never have to wonder what my balance is. If you’re looking for a reliable bank without any hassle US bank is the bank for you.

Great bank
This review is for: US Bank
I have been banking with us bank for a short while now but it has been one of the best banks i heave dealt with.
If there is a mistake on your account they will fix it(when i opened the account me and my girlfriend was suppose to get harley-davidson debit cards and free checks for opening the account, two weeks went by and we never got them,we spoke to a manager and the items were never ordered, we ended up getting them express delivered and we didn't get charge for the delivery or the cards).
If i make a minor mistake they will work with me on correcting the issue(i went over my account balance by seven cents and got charged 35.00 for a overlimit fee, but they told me that since it wasn't a deliberate overcharge they would take half the overcharge fee off of the account)
I chose us bank because they have a good track record and they are willing to help people.
If you want a good bank with good customer service then i suggest you go with us bank.

Welcomed

I just recently graduated high school and moved to the Seattle area to start college. I joined the US Bank about 3 months ago and I am satisfied with the service I have received. The representative the aided me signed me up for the package that would suit me best, asking me all the details of what I would need and want. Also the first time I went inside to take out some cash the representative noticed I didn't have a credit card and he hooked me up. So I received my first credit card and now can start building my credit. The best thing about this bank is definitely the friendly atmosphere and customer service. Everyone walks inside and is greeted by pretty much all the staff. I have nothing negative to say about the bank. I would say everyone who likes to smile and have a casual conversation while getting an errand done should open an account at this bank.

Free Checking
This review is for: US Bank
I have had this bank account for 3 years. I originally chose this bank because I was planning on moving and needed a bank with many locations all over the US. I was mistaken in my assumption that US Bank has locations all over the US. In reality, there are locations in roughly half of the 50 United States. This proved to be a huge issue and the main reason that I no longer use the account. I went on vacation to Florida and overdrew my bank account unknowingly. That is a $39.50 charge for each transaction that overdraws the account, and with each additional day the account is overdrawn, they also charge $8. I could have easily reconciled my bank account by depositing a check, however, US Bank does not have any banking locations in Florida. The best solution the customer service representative had was for me to overnight the check to their offices in Philadelphia. They would not reduce the charges on my account even after I spoke to 3 different customer service representatives, an associate at my home banking center, and the manager of my home banking center.
When I opened the account, I was not yet 18 and had my mother co-sign on the account. She does not have credit, so they denied my application for Overdraft Protection.
The Online Banking is difficult to use. I frequently experience error messages and maintenance messages when I try to sign in. It is especially irritating when I need to transfer funds and am unable to, leaving me without money for unknown periods of time.
There has been nothing good about having this bank account. I would not recommend opening an account with US Bank to anyone. They are a terrible, greedy company.

U.S. Bank Free Checking
This review is for: Free Checking
I opened up a free checking account with U.S. Bank a year and a half ago as a new employee. They required it for direct deposit to go into. I have since stopped working at the bank but I kept my checking account there. Their internet bill pay system has a very intuitive feel to it. It is very simple to use and my bills always get paid on time. It is one of my favorite features of the free checking account. I have never had any problems with my account or the bank. If I have any questions I just call the 800 number and they always have a prompt answer for me. I have went to several different branches and everyone is courteous. Sometimes the bank is understaffed so sometimes I have had to wait for a short time. The only thing is the account doesn't gain very much interest. It is best to only put small amounts of money into this account and put larger amounts into a money market account or a cd. Overall I would say it is a very sound and secure bank to do business with. It is a very conservative bank. I would recommend for anyone to open a free checking account with U.S. Bank.

US Bank
This review is for: Free Checking
I started this account with my bank after receiving a car loan through them several years ago. Over the years, the bank has changed hands twice and is now US Bank. I have the free checking and, overall, I’ve had a positive experience with this bank.
What I like best about US Bank is the customer service. After my check book was stolen, the bank worked quickly to open a new account for me and did not hold me liable for attempts to withdraw money from the compromised account. Another time, an unauthorized auto-renewal put my account in the negative without me knowing, and that resulted in a few hundred dollars in bank fees in less than a week. The company that made the charges reversed them, but would not cover the bank fees. The bank reversed its fees, putting my account back in the black.
One thing I do not like is the high pressure to sell you extra products like lines of credit and overdraft protection. I am offered these services almost every time I do business at the bank, but the tellers are polite in their attempts.
Negatives aside, I would highly recommend US Bank’s Free Checking account. It’s easy, few requirements and the customer service is unparalleled.

Great Account
This review is for: Free Checking
I have had a joint checking account with my husband at US Bank for almost 3 years and it has been great. We chose US Bank because our primary bank is a credit union in Tennessee and we needed a local bank in Missouri. US bank was walking distance from our house and the customer service reps were very friendly and helpful, and even offered free checks when it wasn't part of the promotion.
We eventually got our home mortgage through US bank and I love that my mortgage can be paid and controlled through US Bank's online banking. I can also pay all of my bills online, some have electronic agreements with the bank so they are paid the same day they are submitted.
The one thing we were a little disapointed with is that our Visa check cards were supposed to receive cash back on all purchases and that changed shortly after receiving them so now we can only get cash back at certain places (none of which we frequent). Now we've earned some cash back but not enough to receive it and we won't ever get enough to use it.
The tellers at all of the branches I have been to have been excellent and very helpful. They work quickly and efficently and I love that my branch has a coin counting machine that my son can use to change out his coins for paper money.
The free checking account at US Bank is definately worth getting if you are shopping around for a new checking account.

Goal Savings is a good way to save up money.
This review is for: Goal Savings
I have had my Goal Savings account for a few years now. The best thing about this account is it's connected to my checking account and takes out automatic withdrawls once a month in the amount of $25. It would be a great way of saving money, but with the economy the way it is, I always end up transfering the money back into my checking account and using it. So I have not saved any money with it, which is the purpose of this account. The worst thing about it is the interest rate is a bit lower then my Kemba bank account too so I am more inclined to put my savings in Kemba instead. Signing up for the account was easy. Other then that I haven't had to deal with customer service much, but they were always pleasant.
Overall, I would say this is a good option for someone with enough money and the serious desire to save some money for whatever reason.

My favorite Bank
This review is for: Free Checking
Us Bank has been one of the best banks I had for a long time. I've had this checking from US Bank for 3 years and I had no problems with it than the other banks I've been with. The service was great and a deposit fee in order to get the account was only $50 and no more. I choose this bank because it was very convencient where I lived. I loved the fraud protection. When I went on school shopping and I spent certain amount of money in one day they automatically stopped my card from purchasing anything until I called to say it was just me. It makes me feel better that my money is secured and being watched by professionals. I remember there was a balance on my card that didn't know about and they took so much money out that they gave it back when I told them I had no idea because I was not told of the situation. It was really weird because I didn't know anything about it.

5 star service?
This review is for: Free Checking
This checking account is pretty good, comparable to my other account with Wells Fargo - as long as you never overdraft. Some account start out with lower fees and they stair step, this account came with high overdraft fees from the start.
I was able to get free checks though. I just go to my local branch and ask the banker who opened the account for me and it's always free if I get the boring old ones.
Fees for most everything are pretty low, and there are ATM everywhere. The customer service over the phone is really good, but the branch people don't always know what they are talking about. One time they told me I could use any ATM with no charge - when I was charged five dollars they refunded the fee for me.
This is a good bank, especially if convenience is the most important thing.

How to get in Debt
This review is for: Student Checking Account
I really loved the convenience of the online banking, the bill pay, etc. That's about all I loved. On account of a mistake made in the checkbook register, I overdrew by a few cents, which then charged me a 24 dollar fee. Every day that you are in the hole with US Bank, you are charged 7 dollars. Because I didn't know I was in the hole I kept getting charged the 24 dollar fee every time I used my debit card plus 7 dollars a day. When I became unemployed I was unable to bring my account, which was now hundreds of dollars in the hole, to the positive. I continuously asked the bank to close the account so that it would quit charging the daily fees even after I quit using it so I could pay off the fees and I was told no numerous times. One day I got a call from the bank telling me they were turning my account over to creditors to collect the debt and the fees would no longer be charged. Thanks for closing it out months ago so I could make payments! Now I'm a student with things on my credit. This bank was extremely unwilling to be even a little flexible and work with me.

A Good Bank
This review is for: Free Checking
I have had this account since I was a graduate student. That is at least since 1997 when I started off with First Star bank. In general I like it enough to have stuck with them for over a decade. After the takeover in the late 90s or early this decade, initially I felt the service was bad, most likely it was just different from the previous management/policy. However I soon found this bank to be at the cutting edge of banking technology (online banking, etc.) and I began to like it better. One issue that I had with them was when they had a so-called mini statement you could print out from the ATM. They never informed the customer that it would cost them a $1 or $2. After I printed out it showed me that they had debited my account for that amount and I felt cheated. I am sure some people complained and they quickly rectified the problem. I have had occasional problems with ATMs not working but other than that they are pretty good. I am not much of a walk into the bank customer so my experience is all from online banking and I like it. If you are comfortable with this style of banking, I would strongly recommend this bank.

A Studetnt's Opinion
This review is for: Free Checking
I have had my free checking account with US Bank for a little over a year now. I chose this one because it is a simple account with no hidden charges/fees. My parents also use this bank, so when I went off to college for the first time, when I needed money, all they had to do was transfer some money to my account. (My dad was on the account with me.)
So far this is only the second bank I have dealt with, and I like the fact that if you are not near a computer to check your bank account online (which you can sign up to get – for free), you can call US Bank's free phone line and check up on your balance there instead. You can also “go green” and save paper by getting free online statements too!
As of now, I have not had any problems with US Bank at all. However, you will need to be careful of overdrawing your account, since there is no “overdraft protection” with this free checking account.
I would recommend this account to anyone who needs a “plain and simple” checking account that you can use for every day payments, without fees!

very good bank
This review is for: Free Checking
I have had this bank account since I was a senior in high school and now I am a senior in college. I choose this bank because it was in the same town as I was going to go to college in. This is a well known bank and has many locations in the United States plus some overseas. As a student, I need all the money I can get, and since this is free checking, there are no hidden fees. There also is no limit on the amount of times that you can use your debit card, whereas other banks have limits. If you do use your debt card at a different banks ATM they will reimburse for the fee of the other bank as long as you bring in the receipt. The best thing about this bank is that as soon as you swipe your bank card, the money is deducted right away. Also you get your first order of checks for free. There are many other types of services that are available also. However the downside is that there is no overdraft protection. And if you do get overdrawn, they send you a notice in the mail. Overall this is the bank that I do recommend this bank to all of my friends.

easy checking
This review is for: Five Star Gold Checking
I opened this account in high school as alternative to getting another credit card and have kept it ever since. One of my favorite aspects is being able to view every transaction by using the website which virtually eliminates the need to balance your check book. Furthermore, there online contact center will typically respond to your questions within 24 hours. One downfall I've noticed though is that they do not offer free checks like some other banks or credit unions. You can also get small cashback bonuses directly added to your balance by using your check card as credit for transactions.
