Very Satisfied Customer since 2004
This review is for: ING Direct
I’ve been very happy with ING direct. I have a checking account, about 6 savings accounts, and a CD. Their interest rates are very competitive in the marketplace, and I’ve never been charged any type of fee. I love that I can create as many saving accounts as I want, takes about 15 seconds to set one up, then name it whatever you want (Emergency, House Down Payment etc). All my accounts sync with Quicken so keeping track of everything takes none of my time. Also, love the e-checks you can send by email.
Well done ING!

POOR Customer Service & Inability to comprehend
This review is for: ING Direct
Even a supervisor cant give me a phone number tot he location to follow thru on a fax?!! WHAT?
& cusotmer ervice representatives and supervisors were unable to understand that the Direct Deposit into my ING account Was in fact a direct pull from my Pay Check. They were unable to understand that the Pentagon Federal Credit union account for the secure test deposit was a Different account. They have been unable to "Verify" my account for multiple weeks.
When I finally said fine just refund my money. " They cant do this without "verifying my account" WTF . How are they unable to return MY FUNDS .. Either I am the Account Holder Verified by sharing SS, B day, ETC or I am not . The reason I want my money out is your are incapable of verifying my account because the concept of a direct deposit direct from a pay check is somehow mind blowing to the multiple low intelligence people answering the phone !

Take your money out of ING- BE HEARD!
This review is for: ING Direct
I have been a member of ING since 2006. I started with an interest rate of 5% then it went down to 3% then 2% not its at 0.9%. This is insane! I called and the woman on the phone got very curt with me and said "its a sign of the times" What is? Greed? The worst was in 2008-2010 and the interest was 2-3% then. I am removing my money from ING and putting it back in my CITIBANK where the interest in my savings is 1%. I urge everyone to pull their money from this crook bank and shut them down. I just wonder how many bonuses the board of ING has paid themselves since lowering these rates?

Easy to Use, Nice Organization of Accounts
This review is for: ING Direct
I've had my ING account for a few years and I love it. I have an ING Electric Orange Checking account that earns interest, two ING CDs, and several savings accounts. I particularly like the way you can rename the different savings accounts, so you can see what you are saving the money for. For example, my savings accounts have names like, New Car, Emergency Fund, Gifts & Miscellaneous, and Travel. I know that there are other online banks where I could earn a little bit more interest but the ease of use of their site has made it a winner for me. The savings accounts have a slightly higher interest rate than the checking account. I also like that it takes two to three days to transfer funds from my ING accounts to my regular brick and morter bank (Charles Schwab) - this is a great way for me to curb impulse spending with my savings money since I can not get to the cash right away. For those just starting into managing their personal finances and starting to save, ING Direct is the way to go. I have also had a ROTH IRA through ING and it is great since you can begin to put money into it immediately since the minimum is very low to open the account. I have tried other online banks such as FNBO and others but I like ING the best.

If it's what you need, it's good
This review is for: ING Direct
I got forced into ING Direct when NetBank went under. Problem was, with ING Direct, you need to have a checking account somewhere else, and since my checking account had just been absorbed by the place that required a checking account somewhere else...big loop of problems. So I left, got a checking account somewhere else and later decided to push some extra cash over to ING Direct to get some interest. It works fine for that.
What you do is set up transfers between your checking account (somewhere else -- get used to that) and your ING Direct account. You can then shuffle money back and forth as needed. Use your checking account for bills, put the extra cash into ING Direct to earn a bit of extra interest. No rates are great right now anywhere, but ING Direct is not bad for minimum hassle.
Sometimes it takes a while for the money to be available, so that's something to keep in mind while you're moving your money around.
There's no branches, everything is online. You can call them, and they do seem pretty competent on the phone.
So if you already have a checking account, you can use them. If you just need a checking account, these guys won't work for you.

High Rates, Great Service
This review is for: ING Direct
I opened my INGDirect savings account five years ago. The bank didn't close my account even though I had less than $1 balance for a couple of years. I've been adding to it regularly for the last 3 years through direct deposit and weekly EFTs - without a single glitch.
Getting money out of savings couldn't be easier, too. EFTs take only 2-3 business days and they've never taken longer than 2.
Although the interest rate is slightly lower than available elsewhere it has always been more than 1% higher than my local bank's savings account rate.
And I have to say that my experiences with customer service have been stellar. Quick, accurate, helpful responses are always provided.
Finally, the website is one of the easiest to navigate I've found in online banking although it takes quite a while to load with dial-up.
I've been delighted with INGDirect for 5 years now and consider myself quite a loyal customer. I'd recommend ING to anyone!

Nice Account
This review is for: Orange CD
I have been an ING customer for 3 years now and I have always had a great experience banking with them. Their CDs are nice because they offer some of the highest rates around and if your CD is about to mature, they offer you a bonus on your interest rate if you roll over to another CD. It's really a great account if you don't have a lot to start with, since there is no minimum to open a CD and you will earn the same high interest even if you don't have a lot of money in your CD. I also like how easy it is to link these CDs to your other ING accounts and to your external checking account.

Really awesome features, especially if your mortgage is with them
This review is for: Electric Orange
I've had an ING orange savings account for years, but only opened up the checking account a couple years ago when I refinanced my home and got an ING orange mortgage. The representative told me I could get a free electric orange checking account and easily make my payments from there. I agreed just to check it out, and found that it has better features than any of the larger banks, plus the benefits of the company having no overhead. Before the economy tanked, the interest rates were super high (like, above what CDs ususally are). I'm sure they'll go back up there.
I love that you can send paper checks to people and small businesses for free. This feature is much easier to use than the similar features at the major banks, because it shows you exactly what the check and envelope are going to look like; great for avoiding problems like the business never crediting your account because the bank put your account number in your return address field instead of in the memo field.
The ING customer service people are awesome if you ever do need to call, but the service runs so smoothly, I've rarely had this happen.
You can link the checking account with ING savings accounts (free, as many as you want, so you can have accounts for property taxes, vacation fund, emergency money, etc.) and ING mortgages. It pays the mortgage as a transfer, so it's credited immediately and shows right up. This was immensely convenient when someone needed proof of my current month's mortgage payment on the same day I'd paid it. ING is really just awesome.

Best savings account I ever had!
This review is for: Orange Savings
I have had an ING Orange Savings account for close to three years. I opened an account with ING because they were offering a higher interest rate than the bank that holds my checking account. I also wanted an account that was difficult to access quickly, but easy to access should an emergency occur. The ING Orange Savings is exactly what I needed. I have my ING account linked to my regular checking account so I can easily do online transfers to and from the ING account. I was able to set up a linked account with Sharebuilder that automatically deposited funds into the Sharbuilder account every two weeks for investing. I still get a great interest rate that my regular bank cannot compete with. My favorite aspect of the ING Orange savings account is that I can set up "sub accounts" within my main account. I have sub accounts for Christmas savings, vacation savings, and retirement savings. By doing this, I can see a breakdown of what I have saved for each event, all within my main account. An added bonus to signing up with ING was that if I referred a friend, we both got a monetary bonus added to our account as a thank you. I have recommended ING to many of my friends and have been very happy with the product since I opened my account.

Great rates, good customer service, a bit tricky at first
This review is for: Orange Savings
I've had this account for several years now, and I'm continually amazed at the great rates they offer. I chose them because I wanted an account with limited access.
As a bank, they are unique. They have no physical branches, and require that you link directly to an existing bank account. That process is a bit clunky, and I'm sure it would be a challenge for the less internet savvy. Once the link is created though, you can transfer money in and out of the account with ease.
The best feature of ING Direct Orange Savings accounts is the great rates associated with them. You'll be hard pressed to find better rates - believe me, I've tried.
The worst feature is the limited access to your money. Any transfer takes a couple days to be processed. For me, that's a good thing, but it's not for everyone. You don't have to make a special trip to your bank within specified hours, as you would with a traditional bank, but you do have to be prepared to wait for your money. Withdrawals take about 2 business days to be processed.
As far as customer service goes, I have no complaints. I've called their customer service hotline several times, and their representatives are always pleasant and informative.
If you're looking for a good place to save money, ING might be for you. That's especially true if you have a hard time saving, like me. Your money is safe, and accessible - thought you have to make time for withdrawals.

An easy banking experience
This review is for: Orange Savings
I’ve been using ING Direct Orange Savings for about a year now, and I’ve been very happy with it. I opened the account because my primary banking (a credit union) provides good local services, but does not provide the best savings interest rates. I was interested in finding a savings account with a decent rate of return without having to tie up money in CDs. ING Direct Orange savings has competitive rates (almost 10x higher than my credit union’s savings acct) and is very easy to use. Setting up the account was very straightforward and transferring money back and forth to my credit union account is also simple.
I earned the $20 bonus for opening the account, and an extra $10 “bonus” by referring a friend to ING. If you factor that into the interest rate, it pretty much can’t be beat at a brick-and-mortar bank. I’m sure you could make more “bonus” money if you wanted to hit up friends and family.
The only shortcoming I’ve seen with the ING accounts is that you can’t name a beneficiary for your accounts online. I’m guessing you could call customer service to do this, but it’s not critical for me.
I’ve found ING’s online services to be more comprehensive than other online banks and not as prone to having fees associated with them.
All in all, I am very happy with ING and plan on maintaining my Orange Savings account.

The best decision I made was to get an Orange Savings
This review is for: Orange Savings
I have had my Orange Savings with ING Direct for over 5 years. I not only have been gaining interest since then, but I have also referred many people to their bank and have gotten payouts for it in return. I don't know of any other bank that will pay you to refer people who get accounts on top of paying you interest already. They are also a very secure online bank. When you create your account they really verify that you're who you say you are by doing several questionnaires and making you go through a waiting period to verify your identity; I really enjoyed that. Overall, I can say that getting an Orange Savings is a good deal because there is no minimum or maximum that you can have with them. And if you want or need your money, it's only a mouse click away. I have sent out checks with my money and even transferred some of it back to my physical bank without any sort of issues. On the contrary, I usually get the money between one and two business days regularly. I would recommend this to all families out there who are looking to create a savings account that will pay them back, for their kids, a new car, or even a vacation. It's for sure very worth it and it'll take less than 10 minutes to sign up! Find a referral link though to start out with some free money!

Best Checking Account Ever
This review is for: Electric Orange
I have been a member of ING since 2001 and have always been very pleased with their products. When they rolled out their Electric Orange product, I was excited. I have been banking ever since with my Electric Orange Account. I have used checking accounts from many of the big bank names, such as Bank of America, Arvest, PNC, but none of them even come close to features and ease of use. I used to rack up fees for overdrafts at other banks, but with Electric Orange, I pay pennies for any slight overdrafts. With banks like Arvest, I've paid hundreds of dollars in fees and charges. ING’s free bill pay service is quick, easy and effective. I’ve had to pay for this feature at other places and it’s free with my Electric Orange account. The only complaint I would have, is finding fee-free ATMs. It’s a minor complaint as they provide a great tool online to find fee-free ATMs. There has only been once or twice I’ve been somewhere there wasn’t a fee free ATM. They also have a top notch customer service department. I had a problem with using my ATM/Debit Card at a location and within minutes of calling customer service, they had fixed the issue. I would highly recommend ING's Electric Orange Checking Account.

Orange Savings is Great
This review is for: Orange Savings
I had been keeping my money in a non-interest checking account for several years. After an incident last summer when I lost my debit card while traveling, I decided that it was time to move most of my emergency fund into a separate account for safety and also to start earning some interest. I compared reviews and interest rates and chose Orange Savings at ING Direct as having the best of both. I was a little nervous about using an online bank, but I have been very pleased with the service. The account was quick to set up and it’s easy to transfer money in and out. Automatic transfers are also easy to set up and I planned a regular monthly transaction to continue building savings in a challenging economic environment. I feel very secure with the safeguards on my account. If you use a financial tracking program like Quicken, it’s easy to download account information to keep your finances up to date. The only change I would make in the Orange Savings service is to receive fewer marketing emails—I’m not going to get a mortgage any time soon and it clutters my inbox! I would definitely recommend this account to others looking for an easy and safe way to build savings and earn interest as well.

I Love My Orange
This review is for: Orange Savings
I've had several Orange Savings Accounts for more than three years. What attracted me to the Orange accounts was the $25 sign up bonus, the ease of account use, and the simplicity of the product.
The ING Direct groups seems to understand that a lot of us don't have time to read and interpret the buzzwordy bank speak that comes from other institutions. The entire site is designed for the lay person to be able to access it and read it. What a relief!
The only reason I didn't give ING Direct 5 stars is because their interest rates have seemed low in the last 6 months, compared to other online banks, which was surprising. But I'm still with the Orange and will have a hard time switching. I might even end up with one of their mortgages! So easy to use...
Definitely recommend it for service, ease of use, and lack of superfluous banks stuffiness.

Oranges galore
This review is for: Orange Savings
My ING Direct savings account is great. It is great because I get to actually save my money while gaining interest on the money I saved. The ING savings has one of the highest interest rates available compared to the traditional brick and mortar banks out there.
I also love my Orange Savings account because I can create mini savings accounts within the account that lets me save for different items. For example, I am trying to save money to buy an engagement ring. So I just created another savings account and I have my money automatically transfer from my linked account into this account.
ING also allows me to automate all of my bills, and transfers to other accounts as needed. All I need to worry about is earning enough money to keep up with my savings. In addition to great interest rates, the bank gives me $25 in referral bonus for everyone I get to sign up for their service.
I have been a member for over 4 years now and I have no complains. The only complain I would have is that the money transfer from your linked account can take up to 3 business day. But I believe that is with any bank. It also beats going to the bank every time. You can also mail any depositing check directly to ING without going any further than the mailbox and your money is usually in your account within 2-3 days.
Customer service has been great. I have called once when a mishap happened at an ATM and the person on the other end understood my problem and helped me out right away. I don’t think I’ve been more please with calling a support number before.

Very Easy to Use
This review is for: Orange CD
In an effort to begin setting up a ladder of cds, I decided to buy a cd through ING Direct. Since I already had a savings account with ING, it was very easy to purchase the cd. I was given the option to have the interest from the cd compound into the cd or be disbursed each month into my savings account. This makes it very easy to use their cd as a savings mechanism, but also also one to receive some income from the savings device. The ING website will list the current rates. When I purchased my cd, there did not appear to be a minimum amount needed to invest. It takes very little time to set it up online. The cd can be set up to automatically roll-over at the end of the term or it can be transferred into a separate account. The cd can be redeemed early with the penalty only three months interest. On the web site, the account page will always show how much interest has been earned to date, paid year to date, paid in the previous year, and what the early redemption value would be today. I would greatly recommend a cd through ING Direct as ING makes it easy to save.

Good account, just in case...
This review is for: Electric Orange
Its almost been two years with ING Direct for me and I have a lot to say. First of all, I can't get over how lacking the security is. I like using [a-zA-Z0-9] and special characters at a length of at least 20 characters. This bank only allows ten numbers to be used. However, if you enter these numbers by mouse(clicking) or keyboard(typing letters that represent the numbers), this will prevent any spyware or recording programs from getting your passcode. The layout of the site is extremely simple, sometimes overly simple. I had a hard time finding where to add transfer accounts, it was right there in front of me all the time as 'MY Links' with a little icon. This simple layout though has everything I need. The routing number is always handy, my Sharebuilder account value is there, and interest rates are shown right on the account pages. The rates have not been on the checking since the rates dropped so lo--I thought they were there before. While this bank is not a very good interest maker currently, they have had promotions in the past. It was $25 when I transferred early from Netbank, then another easy bonus later to use the debit card that was promptly paid. I have kept this account at times with just a penny in it, with no problems. I just transferred $30 to it to do the 5 purchases promotion or the sweepstakes one--I didn't win.
One super major drawback is it's ability to work with Mint.com. It shows up as broken during extended business hours. But, this is the only bank that I have seen that allows you to see and change what your challenge questions are at any time---extremely helpful on hooking it up to other banks, or sites like Mint. Overall except for the huge drawback of playing nice with Mint(they just remind you of keeping your account safe in questions regarding Mint), and the not so hot interest rates, it a great account to just have in case you need to.

Way to Save!
This review is for: Orange CD
In July of 2007 I began taking notice of a great deal of advertisements for ING Direct's online savings accounts and CDs. Several months prior to this, I commenced my search for an accessible, practical and financially beneficial CD account. ING offers a multitude of choices with different annual percentage yield rates depending on how long you want to save your money with them. I was able to sign up as a first time banker with ING for a 12 month CD account with an APY of 3.45%! I have been earning a nice sum of money thanks to their generous rates. The minimum investment requirement to open up a CD with them was a practical $1. Moreover, if need be, the CD was easily accessible for transferring funds to and from my checking account. ING's customer service associates are fully competent and will never give you the run around. Signing up and verifying my checking and savings account took minutes. Finally, if you roll over your CD after the maturity date, you are eligible for a roll over bonus along with high APY rates that stay locked in for a minimum of three months! Deciding on the worst aspect regarding ING's CD account is the fact that although you may sign on with a high APY, it may change (with notice of course) and decrease after the first several months. However, the main point of recommendation that I want to communicate here is ING's APYs are by far the highest out there. Rather than letting your money accumulate and earn pennies in your regular savings account, why not sign up with ING's CD account and let your money do the work for you. The convenience, honesty, and overall security that ING is devoted to maintaining has made them an excellent choice for todays online bankers.

A wonderful online-only banking experience
This review is for: Orange Savings
I have had this account for a little over a year now. I originally opened an Orange Savings account because I had heard recommendations on a variety of blogs and websites for it.
I like the simple web interface, and the no-frills, not trying to sell you every product on the market approach to their image. It's just a bank, and they help you by paying interest for your money :)
I opened the account online, and found the process to be easy enough. Personally I find it to be a positive that all of ING's services are right on the website.
I have been using their automatic savings plan, which was a breeze to set up, to transfer money from my checking account twice a month. I have been quite pleased with this feature as I never have to remember to put money aside for the savings account.
The main downside I have encountered is that the transfers to my Bank of America checking account take two business days, so when I need to access my savings, it can be a hassle. This could also be thought of as a plus for the impulsive types who need more barriers between them and their money.
Right now I'm earning an interest rate of 1.40% APY. It's not a lot, but it's certainly more than I'd get if put my money in my mattress!
Overall, I would highly recommend this account to people who are comfortable banking online and haven't really done anything about starting to save. They make it easy to get started.

Great online savings account
This review is for: Orange Savings
I've been banking with ING Direct for about 4 or 5 years (with about a 2 year dormant period in the middle).
When I decided to return to using my ING account, I could not find my account information. The gentleman I spoke to in customer service was well-spoken, congenial, knowledgeable and helpful. He tried to help me to remember anything (password, log-on, account number)... Unfortunately, I had to be reissued a new account number and password via mail which took about a week.
The process was seamless. The money I transferred over the initial phone call had processed and the linked checking account information had also carried over.
The primary reason I enjoy having a savings account with ING Direct is because I have to think more about my money: it takes a couple of business days to transfer into your checking account, although this issue would most likely be remedied by signing up for their ElectricOrange Checking.
When I first signed up with ING, they offered great bonuses for referrals; referral bonuses are still offered but the payout is not as high as it once was.
ING Direct has been great to bank with over the years. The website is secure and easy to use and I have always easily found answers to my questions through their website, unlike some other banking websites.

Great Service All Around
This review is for: Orange Savings
I just started an Orange Savings Account at ING a few months ago, and I already have great things to say about it. For starters, opening an account is easy and doesn’t take very long at all. The forms are quick and clear, and opening a second account after you open one is even easier! The user accounts page is very user-friendly as well, with all the necessary information displayed conveniently and readily. Linking my checking account at another bank was easy and only took a few days, just as they promised. Plus, who doesn’t love competitive interest rates?
In particular, I am very impressed with ING’s customer service. I got a call from them a few weeks ago saying my account had been accessed from somewhere in South Carolina (I live in Maryland). Nothing had been taken, but since it was so far out of my normal pattern of access, they froze my account until I could be contacted to verify that it wasn’t a fraudulent access. I recently had my Social Security Number stolen from my college, and it let me rest much easier knowing that ING was so vigilant about keeping my savings account safe. It was easy to unfreeze the account after I had changed my security information, and the customer service representative was friendly and helpful.

ING Direct Electric Orange is fantastic!
This review is for: Electric Orange
I signed up for Electric Orange a few years back. I was a little nervous at first about the practicality of using a bank that is entirely online, but I have been absolutely delighted with ING.
Electric Orange is a free checking account. There's no minimum balance. It pays very competitive interest. Actually it may even border anti-competitive. Most free checking accounts that I've come across pay little to no interest, but this one tracks a bank lending rate and continually pays out respectable interest. The account comes with a free $1,000 overdraft line, and obviously an online bill-pay service.
To that end, Electric Orange has simplified my bills tremendously. It stores your account information for any companies you want to pay regularly, and it will either cut them a check and mail it or transfer money electronically to them. And not only companies. It’s just as easy to send money to an individual. You just enter their name and mailing information, and ING will mail off a check to them. It’s absolutely delightful. I no longer need to maintain a checkbook. All of my transactions are recorded online, and I don’t have to write and mail checks any longer. ING just takes care of it.
Electric Orange comes with a check card as well, and there is a network of free ATMs throughout the country. I find that Target stores typically are listed as free ATMs, and I don’t often find myself anywhere that I can’t get to one.
The only caveat is that you will need to maintain a brick-and-mortar bank somewhere. You can’t walk in to deposit cash or checks. It does slow physical deposits a little having to deposit them at one institution and transfer them to ING afterwards. But you know, if you sign up for direct deposit it’s hardly ever an issue. And usually you can find a free bank locally to use as a front for ING. It’s well worth it.
My wife and I both have Electric Orange accounts, and neither of us would be willing to give them up.

Everything I wanted!
This review is for: Electric Orange
I've been a member of ING for over two years. I chose the Electric Orange account for the high interest rate. I'll be honest, the interest rate is pretty negligible right now, but the rest of the perks more than make up for it.
The best part of my Electric Orange account is the ease of transferring money online. Whether I'm transferring money to my husband's account, my E*Trade account, or the free bill pay, everything can be done with just a few clicks, or even automatically.
The worst part of the Electric Orange account is of course depositing money. It's a relatively painless process, but it does require to have a brick-and-mortar bank and to wait a few extra days when I have cash or checks I need to deposit. Luckily, ING will send a paper check, for free, to anyone I have to give money to. That's another favorite perk.
I've contacted ING customer service a few times, and they have always been prompt, friendly and easy to understand. I would recommend ING, particularly the Electric Orange checking account and the Orange Savings account, to anyone who is looking for more flexibility with spending and saving. It has totally changed the way I budget, and I love it.

Slow and Steady Wins the Race
This review is for: Orange Savings
I have had my online ING Orange Savings account for a year and a half. Originally skeptical about online banking, a $25 offer intrigued me and I checked it out. I have ING withdraw $25 a week and stash it away in my online savings. I forget about it and am always delighted when I see how much the balance has grown. I've made only one withdrawal for some extra vacation cash. In these financial times, I feel a bit more secure knowing I have a small nest egg in the case of emergency. I have only had occasion to call customer service once, when inexplicably my weekly deposits ended after that one withdrawal. My rep was very helpful and things were immediately straightened out. Access to my information online is very easy and secure. They have you nickname your accounts, which I didn't understand, at first. I realize they should be called "Vacation" or "Mad Money". I named mine after one of the Beatles.
Ridiculous! I had no trouble transferring money from this account into my checking, which is at a different bank. I feel ING is doing a good job with these online accounts and if you find it hard to save, I definitely would recommend that you choose a modest amount to be auto-withdrawn and deposited weekly.
Slow and steady wins the race to a little bit of financial security.

Really pleased with ING
This review is for: Electric Orange
I'm really pleased with ING Direct. I only registered my accounts recently, but have been very satisfied. Transactions are processed quickly and it's very easy to manage. I particularly like that I can easily set up as many joint savings accounts with my husband, named whatever I'd like, as I need. I'm using multiple accounts to budget more easily and it's really helpful. I do wish the hold period for deposits was shorter, but I believe it would not apply if I switched over my direct deposit. I would highly recommend ING to most people I know. The only issue might be if you write a lot of checks. ING can send checks for you, but you do not otherwise get a checkbook. For me, this is fine because I only write one check per month (rent) and use debit for all other transactions. ING does appear to have good savings rates, which is another plus. I’m also considering starting a CD ladder and I really appreciate that they make that easy – there is an option that will pretty much handle that for you. The security protocols seem stronger than those I’ve encountered with other online banking. ING has you choose a picture and phrase that will appear when you login, which helps you make sure it’s an authentic site.

Couldn't Be Happier
This review is for: Orange CD
What a bank!!! Almost 4 years ago, I opened my first one year CD in the amount of $4,000 with ING Direct. Over that period, I have renewed that first CD four times. Each time, the rate may fluctuate from the previous time, but it is always a rate 4-5 times the national average.
I initially opened the account because I was seeking a means of getting higher interest rates than my local bank. I was amazed that an internet bank could offer such a higher rate than my own "brick and morter" bank I have used for years. But they did.
Over these four (4) years, I have had to call on occasion and speak with a customer service representative on the telephone. So far, they are always spoken perfect English, are always quick to handle my transaction, and have never ended a call without thanking me for my business. That means even more to me than the great interest rates.
As a man who owns multiple businesses and maintains several bank accounts, people are always asking me what banks I recommend. Although I have funds in seven (7) different banks, I always recommend ING Direct for the beginner or experienced saver.
When you consider the interest rates, the customer service, and the benefits offered, there is not a better bank around today.

ING offers great service, wonderful rates, and a fantastic ability to transfer funds in and out of the all online bank. I couldn't be happier!

ING!
This review is for: Orange Savings
I have used an ING Savings account for a year and a half, and love it! I started with one savings account, and now have four, all for different purposes. All four appear on the “My Accounts” page, so it’s easy to see your total deposits. Transfers from my bank account to ING (and vice versa) take a few days to process, but so long as you can plan a few days ahead if you ever need some cash, it works. Transfers between ING savings accounts are instantaneous. Three of my accounts have an automatic deposit every month. Makes saving easy, and if you ever need to change the transfer date, you can do so right up to the day before. The interest rates are low right now, and maybe you’d be able to find something slightly higher somewhere else, but I like ING, have never had a problem, find the site easy to use, and it’s FDIC insured. I’ve never had to contact customer service, I’ve always been able to do anything or get my questions answered online. Have looked into their checking account and CDs, but haven’t tried them yet.

Great account.
This review is for: Electric Orange
I have been an ING customer for 3 years now and I just recently opened an Electric Orange checking account with them. It was simple and I like that I can transfer money easily from my other ING accounts or my external bank accounts into checking. When I signed up there was a promotion for a $25 bonus with 3 signature purchases, and that was quickly deposited into my account.
I like ING because they have always given me great customer service on the phone and online and they have frequent bonuses and other perks for loyal customers.
The only complaint I have is that to get a high interest rate on checking you have to keep at least $50K.

Recommended for the risk averse
This review is for: Orange Savings
I was hesitant to open a savings account with ING because it seems to lack branches. Not a problem. Just link a regular savings account to wherever you have your checking account. Transferring money only takes a couple of days and the rate at ING is higher than most other places. Of course, if you REALLY want a good rate of return, go buy an index fund and wait the recession out.

great checking account
This review is for: Electric Orange
I love my ING checking account and have had no problems with it. It was really easy to open, and I appreciate the interest I make on my checking.
I rarely have to pay fees for an ATM, especially since they've expanded their coverage to basically every 7-11 ATM. I can send checks with ease and speed and I can conveniently transfer money between accounts.
No complaints here.

Orange savings
This review is for: Orange Savings
I have had this savings account for almost a year. I chose this account since it was very easy to open online, and the account had a good interest rate. I have to admit that the $25 I got for opening the account was a factor as well. I had been trying to find a savings account where I could set aside some amount from my salary and I finally decided on ING because it was the account with the highest interest rates available at the time.
I liked the process of opening the account, which was fairly simple, and quick. All you need is a checking account to link to this account. I especially like how simple it is to do online transfers between accounts. And the best part is that it's completely free.
I would say the best thing about the bank is how simple it is to access and use your account. All the options are easy to understand, and use. However I have been disappointed lately as the interest rates have decreased significantly. It's now only 1.5% APY, whereas when I opened the account it was @2.75%. But this is probably because of the economic downturn and hopefully they will increase the rates again.
I have called customer service couple of times and would have to say I am very happy with the service. There isn't too much wait time and they are very helpful. I would recommend this account to anyone who is trying to put aside some money for their future.

Very unsatisfied
This review is for: Electric Orange
I first opened my Electric Orange account as I wanted the $25 matching sign up bonus and I felt the interest on the checking account would be beneficial to me. In addition, I wanted the convenience of online banking from a company that was well versed in online banking as that is all that they do. I barely used the account for 2 years, but I was in line to receive a large sum of money, so I wanted to move with ING.
Unfortunately, I was very disappointed with my service. The account gives one the ability to link other bank accounts with the ING account so one can transfer monies between accounts, seemlessly. I set up my transfers as stated and began using the account. My first issue happened with my first online statement. There was an overdraft charge. As I hadn't used my ING account, I was unsure how I could get the overdraft. When I called into Customer Service they informed me that as I was transferring money in and out, one transfer was completed before the funds were available so my account was overdrawn. In addition, as ING does not allow for overdrafts, they were immediately closing my account.
I was furious. I had recently added my husband to my account and they let me know that he could keep an ING account (although it was actually his log on that had completed the overdraft), but that I would no longer be welcome as a customer.
It was an awful situation made worse by terrible customer service. I do not recommend this bank to anyone.

ING Savings
This review is for: Orange Savings
I've had savings accounts with ING for 3 years now. I originally chose ING because of their interest rates and because I got a $25 bonus for opening an account. I opened up a savings account online and I also use ING's checking account. The website is very user friendly and it's easy to do everything I need online. I’ve never needed to contact customer service, although I hear that they are very helpful if you do need assistance. I love that you can create multiple accounts for each savings goal. I have several for things like car repairs, Christmas gifts, and an emergency fund. I have some of my paycheck direct deposited into an ING savings account, which is really convenient and easy. The money is available right away, unlike when you transfer money. Transferring money from an outside account usually takes a few days to complete. I also like that it’s free to transfer money between an ING account and an outside account. The interest rates aren't always the highest but they're competitive and better than what you can get at most brick and mortar banks. Overall, ING is a great option for savings accounts and I would definitely recommend it to anyone.

Convenient Savings at Typically High Rates
This review is for: Orange Savings
I have been a customer of ING about 4 years. I started with the Orange Savings account and opened the account quickly via the Internet. The website makes it easy and the language of the agreements does not require a law degree to understand.
Moving money between my local checking account and this savings account is quick and free. I have set up automated savings as well as move money to keep my reserves liquid and at the highest rates possible. Customers get a useful newsletter and statements are easy to view, download, and print if you want.

Simple and Safe
This review is for: Orange Savings
I have an online savings account at ING that I really like. It was very simple to set up, it offered a better interest rate than my B of A savings account, and it is very simple to use. I appreciated how easy it was to set up the account online, and I really appreciated how easy it was to set up the ability to transfer funds in and out of another bank account. The options on the website are very very clear, easy to use, and very simple. Its almost as if they've built this for dummies, but that's exactly what I want out of an online savings account. Getting my 1099 tax statements is easy, tracking my interest rates is easy, logging in is easy, etc. I'm not interested in using it for check writing, brokerage purposes, or anything like that. I use it to park some cash where i can earn some interest and rest peacefully at night knowing its FDIC insured.

Solid returns, one gotcha
This review is for: Electric Orange
When my savings grew large enough in ING Direct's Orange Savings account I moved to Electric Orange. The process of opening the second account and transferring the cash was *very* simple. It took me at most 5 minutes to get my balance moved over.
The interest rate was better so it seemed like a no-brainer. At the time I couldn't see any gotchas, I now know about the hard credit check (thanks BankFox). Since then I have been happy with the account and have even earned a few $10 bonuses from referring friends to open accounts. There's not much to their interface, but it's more than serviceable for a place to park your cash and earn some interest, not to mention supporting sending paper checks and also sending cash directly to someone else through what they call an Electric Check. In addition to transferring money to other people, they make it very easy to transfer cash in or out to your own accounts whether to an ING account or a linked, external account.
The one gotcha I encountered was that they don't let you send an Electric Check that is larger than $5000. Other than that, be aware that you will get a debit card mailed to you. If you have a lot of cash in the account, this would be a good one to consider cutting up or keeping very safe. Happy saving.

Can be hard to withdraw large amounts
This review is for: Orange Savings
I can't say that I have a ton of experience with ING--my wife and I opened an account to park some cash while we were saving up to buy a house. We never had any issues until it came time to pool funds from various accounts to make a down payment. Turns out ING is SUPER slow when it comes to either wiring a large amount of cash or producing a bank check. Something to keep in mind if you're using your ING account to save up for a large purpose--definitely plan ahead!

Since Back in the Day
This review is for: Orange Savings
I've been on ING Direct since before they started doing ads, since before they had their coffee shops (how cool is that!), since they were the only online bank, since they only had the orange account.
I joined them back in the early 2000s when their rates were high. They used to have really high rates and these awesome referral bonus's that gave you and me $25 bucks each. I got everyone in my family an account.
Their website has always been simple, almost barebones; It always just plain worked.
These days, I think their rates are down and they don't pay as much for friends, but I still love them. Simple, get it done, reliable. Would absolutely recommend it to set it and forget it.
And do check out the cafe in Phili - makes no sense, but why not do coffee and money!

For more than 50k, this is the account you want
This review is for: Electric Orange
ING is possibly the best brand in online banking right now. Their customer service is excellent, and their online tools and features are top notch. Their rates may no longer be at the top of the pack, but the total package is unmatched elsewhere. And as of recently, the Electric Orange account is the account you want if you're looking to deposit $50k or more with ING.
I'm not exactly sure why, but for balances above $50k, ING's Electric Orange is offering better rates than their Orange Savings. Add to that the additional flexibility in withdrawing money (Online Bill Pay, Electric Checks, and ATMs) and it's difficult to find a reason not to like this account. I suppose the one obstacle might be the hard credit check associate with the account, but that's a necessity tied to the automatic overdraft line of credit they provide.
I've heard a few people complaining about this - but at the end of the day, it's just like a built in credit card. You're spending what you don't have, and you're going to get charged for it. And it's a WHOLE lot better than the cascading overdraft fees that other banks are just *waiting* to charge you - go with ING, and you'll be alright.

Love it!
This review is for: Orange Savings
I opened an account with ING a little over 2 years ago, and have been nothing but pleased with their service. I initially chose them as the interest rates paid on their accounts are generally higher than almost everyone else in the market place. I have also learned that given their on-line nature, they are also able to offer other products with lower fees than their competitors. Setting up my savings account online was extremely easy as their website is functional, user-friendly, and secure. As a company, ING has been great at communicating with their customers through these turbulent economic times. It gives me comfort knowing that they did not engage in risky investment practices that have put the future of so many other major banks in jeopardy. Monthly, they provide easy to read statements, and annually, they promptly provide tax forms, all via their website. I have been very pleased with ING, and would gladly recommend them to anybody.
