Great Bank!
This review is for: HSBC Bank
I originally chose this bank because my father had an account here for several years without any complaints or problems. The moment I turned 18 I wanted my won account so I opened one at HSBC. This bank is very friendly and helpful with all your questions you might have. Opening an account was very simple and the lady helped me step through the process. She asked me basic questions to help find out which account is best for me. I've been a loyal costumer of theirs for over 5 years now and would recommend this bank to anyone. Never once had i encountered a problem like some of my other friends have with their banks. I also like the outdoor banks that they have open 24 hours in case I need to deposit my money or take some out real quick when the bank is closed. It is very convenient for me. I also trust HSBC since they are a world bank and I can easily find my bank wherever my travels bring me. Thank you HSBC for being my number one bank choice. I'd give it a rating of 5 stars out of 5. Best bank there is to get an account at.

Simplicity
This review is for: HSBC Bank
I opened up my HSBC savings account about a year ago when they had one of the highest interest rates in the country, it was almost at like 5%. I'll admit I was a bit hesitant at first because of the fact that they have no local locations but after doing quite a bit of research on them I decided to go ahead with it. The sign up process was extremely easy although you did have to wait about a week or so for everything to be approved. Once everything was in place, I received my materials (card, paperwork) fairly fast. For those who don't know, they are able to provide such high interest rates because they are an online bank so they cut out all the extra fees it cost to run a brick/mortar locations. I like how I am able to use any ATM, if needed, to draw cash from my savings and they will refund the ATM fees up to twice a month. I have had to call the bank twice in the past year as I forgot my log in passwords (there are three security features that need to be filled out) and it was a bit of a pain to have to verify all my info but it is to my benefit. The customer service rep was really nice about it and it didn't take no longer than a total of about 5 minutes including wait time.. No problems with them, they are a financially sound bank and I have been satisfied with them.

Great bank for students
This review is for: HSBC Bank
I have had this student checking account with HSBC for a little over four years. I only chose this bank because there was a HSBC representative at my college freshman orientation and there were HSBC ATM’s on campus. I really like this bank and I am so glad that I chose it. I mostly bank online and on occasion I go to a local branch. There is some freedom with student checking so I cannot say much about fees because I was never charged any. Except I did want to cancel a check once, but I didn’t as it costs $30.
The best thing about this bank is their bank mail, an online customer service interface. I’ve sent them many questions through bank mail about checks and even closing accounts and they have been prompt and friendly in their service.
The worst thing about this bank is the log in feature of their website. There are a lot of security features which is a great thing but, since there are so many, it is very easy to get locked out of the system. You have to call the bank and a lot of time and many questions later everything is reset. The customer service agent was very hard to understand and I’ve gotten quite frustrated with calling this bank.
Another downfall of HSBC is that it is a very regional bank. I’ve since graduated college and have had to change banks because of relocation to a different area of the United States. However, I have already had many more problems with my new bank than I have ever had with HSBC. I would gladly go back to HSBC and I highly recommend it to students.

HSBC: Internationally Successful for a Reason!
This review is for: Choice Checking
HSBC has probably been my all-time favorite place to bank with. Yes, I tend to put my large-digit savings at a higher yield account online, but when it comes to day-to-day checking and bill-paying, I can't beat HSBC - and I've tried!
I don't feel pride in declaring a foreign bank my favorite bank, but the fact is, I have never been charged an unfair fee, I have never found myself at the mercy of endlessly long hold times, and the employes at the branch level have always been helpful, happy, and unafraid to engage in seriously excellent customer service.
I must, however, close my HSBC account, due to the fact that there isn't an HSBC branch in Rhode Island! It is a heartbreaking day, I know - perhaps I can find a local credit union that will compare?

HSBC: good retail bank
This review is for: Regular Savings
I’ve been holding my HSBC account since October 2005, and so far, it was a good choice.
If you are looking for international access, flexibility, 24x7 available attention, then this is most probably a good fit for your needs.
I opened this account using the Buenos Aires – Argentina local subsidiary as a bridge, since I’m living here in Argentina… and everything was smooth from the first moment.
It is remarkable the outstanding customer care team they have, and how every person that will pick up the support phone for you will do his best to help your needs!
Since I’m an international customer, I’m calling the bank for support in a complete different time zone, and yet they are 100% responsive at all times.
The only complain I have after 3 and half years of being a customer is: they are a bit slow to process international shipments!
I lost my ATM card in Beijing, China… and it took about 1 month to HSBC to send it back to me… even when they have this advertisement on TV saying that they need 2 days to deliver it any place in the world (and I’m a Premier customer!)….
Still… in the overall balance, I’m happy with my bank account.
Last words: if you’re looking for a smooth, no thrills ride , good customer care … this is the right choice!

Great at home and abroad
This review is for: Choice Checking
I'm a college student, and last summer I was going to Europe for a few weeks. My previous bank had outrageous fees for traveling, so I came to HSBC knowing they were more reasonable about fees for taking money out when in a different country. It's been about a year that I've had this account, and it's worked great.
When I was in Europe my debit card worked without any problems. There was a small fee for taking money out of an ATM, and even less of a fee for using the card in stores. The fee was much smaller as compared to other banks as well as the conversion shops all over Europe.
When I first went to open this account I was 17, so my mother had to co-sign. This was a bit of a hassle as she needed to have her name on the account and it couldn't be just mine, especially since I was going away to college in the fall. Since then we've been able to remove her name from the account and there were no problems.
Everyone at HSBC is very friendly. They go out of their way to make sure I'm taken care of. First opening up my account I needed to bring proof of my being in college, which I didn't have with me. My banker went along with the process and allowed me to come back at my own leisure, rather than canceling the process and making me drive all the way home, and all the way back. He was such a nice guy, and even made sure I knew all the ins and outs of the account - what I could and couldn't do.
The worst problem I've had with the bank thus far is the online banking. Maybe it's just me, but I haven't been able to sign on. The bank sent me an email which said my online access code was below, but it wasn't there. Since I didn't need online banking aside to check my balance though, this isn't too much of a problem. I find it much easier to call the customer service number and have my balance read to me that way.
Out of the three banks I've used so far, and the banks I "interviewed' when opening up my current account, HSBC is byfar the best. They allow me to direct deposit my checks, there are no overdraft fees, and my card works even miles away. Customer service is wonderful, and it's never a hassle to find a location...they're everywhere!
