I opened an East Boston Savings Bank account, approximately three years ago. At the time, the bank was offering an incentive to open up a higher than normal, interest bearing checking account, in exchange for a small, minimum deposit and waive monthly maintenance fees, for six months. I chose to do business with this bank, because they have a stellar customer service reputation, have long standing ties to the community, have sponsored local events and are focused on customizing their products, to suit the needs of their customers. The bank’s commitment to it’s customers, is what impressed me the most. The courteous staff were willing to answer any questions that I had and explained in great detail the various account options available, along with outlining their overdraft policies.
This company’s overall reputation not only as a neighborhood bank, but also as a healthy, regional financial institution with a handful of locations, that offers similar products as the larger, more well known corporations, was certainly, one of the primary reasons why I chose to sign up with them. East Boston Savings Bank has a solid, responsive and attentive customer service group that is well trained on the products they offer, along with detailing their observations about certain accounts, with regards to what fees can potentially be assessed, given specific circumstances. The checking account did work as described, but once the period for enjoying a higher interest rate had expired, the bank without warning, assessed a significantly lowered rate of interest. Even though the special rate on the checking account was negligible, a letter explaining the situation, would have been appreciated.
There was a time, when my direct deposit did not transfer on a scheduled date, due to an error on the part of my employer. The automated bill pay system deducted funds as usual, but due to the fact that the existing balance, barely covered all the transactions initiated, I received an email alert, informing me that I was very close to overdrawing on my account. I immediately, replenished the account through an ATM, while at work. I’m thankful that the bank was able to place safeguards, to protect their customers from bouncing checks and incurring fees. I would definitely recommend this bank to prospective customers who appreciate exceptional customer service, personalized attention and financial products that are comparable in quality, to larger financial institutions.
