Banking becomes easy
This review is for: Chase Bank
I first started using Chase bank about two years ago and ever since I have enjoyed their service. Online banking is easy to use and easy to learn, their investment teams are spot on and know how to make your money grow, even in a recession. I have only had good experiences with Chase customer service. If you have trouble with any accounts or investments you just walk in or give them a call and they are quick to help. Overall, I would rate Chase bank 4/5 stars and would recommend them to anyone who isn't looking for a complicated, annoying, or tedious banking experience.

changed to chase
This review is for: Chase Bank
Originally I had Washington Mutual and I liked their free checking account that had a reward earnings. However, when they changed to Chase I lost that and the quality is not as good. Also, with the change the terms and conditions of my checking account have changed and I don't like change. I wish Washington Mutual didn't get bought out but since this economy sucks the big name banks are staying afloat. I have only been a Chase customer for about a year now and things aren't as good as it was. Granted other than the change Chase is a stable company and is very trustworthy. I do like that I can check my account on my phone and online because it is convenient for me when I am out and not near an atm that I can still check my balance. Overall, I think that Chase is a good bank that has many followers from all across the United States. I do like that I can travel and can use Chase atm’s without any fees, because with Washington Mutual, which was solely based on the west coast, it was ridiculous when I travel and want to take out some money.

Chase: A Good Bank if Clients are Careful
This review is for: Chase Bank
After ignoring numerous requests in late 2008 to open a checking account at a new branch, I finally capitulated when the deal was sweetened with the offer of $125 to be added to my account.
Judging by the overall reputation Chase has built for decades, I was surprised to find that an employee would deliberately mislead a new customer while opening an account. Having conducted financial business for 30 plus years, I am far from being a newbie in that realm.
The new account representative stated that I would be required to open a savings account in addition to the checking (later found to be untrue). Also offered the free debit card, for which I was charged $4 per month for additional benefits that were not offered or explained to me.
When I called customer service to see why I was being charged the $4 fee, the CSR immediately canceled my card and did not tell me this until I inquired at the end of the call. As an afterthought, she said they would get a new card out to me. I told her I had pending auto-deductions and she stated they 'should' go through.
My neighbor mentioned she also received an invitation and decided to also open an account at that branch. I counseled her on what happened to me and she was coincidently 'helped' by the same person.
This guy gave her the same misinformation and she flatly stated she knew it to be untrue and offered to check with the manager.
She said the look of surprise on his face was priceless and he quickly moved on with the transaction.
In spite of these and other issues associated with opening that account, I'm glad I chose to retain it. I really love the option to deposit cash directly to the ATM and get a receipt. That is also true of the checks...you can opt to have a copy of the check printed on your receipt. When it comes to my money...I love a paper trail!

review of Boca Branch
This review is for: Chase Bank
I must admit that I was concerned when my local Washington Mutual branch at the corner of Glades and Lyons Roads in Boca Raton were switching over to Chase, however, I think that the emplyees of the bank have gone out of their way to make the experience as easy of a transition as possible and I think that I am happiest with their customer service. I think that the Chase Mobile application for cell phones isn't so great though. I also bank at Bank Atlantic and their mobile site is outstanding because of the detail. Overall, I would recommend using Chase now that it has taken over WaMu. They are really trying to stay personal with their clients!

Choose Chase
This review is for: Chase Bank
Chase Bank is actually a pretty good bank. I opened a chase account back in college (years ago). The staff was very helpful and friendly. I chose Chase because my college student loans are held by Chase. I like that the bank has branches all over the city and country. There is nothing more frustrating than searching for an atm of your branch and not finding one! Because they are a large bank, I don't really have that problem. I also like the online account access. This helps manage one's account. I like the online bill pay too. The system is user friendly. I haven't had a problem with Chase holding deposits for overly long. I have heard horror stories about customers from other banks depositing local or state checks and still not having access after weeks! Unnerving and not a good business practice on some other bank's business practices. I only removed a star since there are some fees involved...sorry...but it only it could all be free then a prefect score for Chase. But alas...no such luck.

Chase
This review is for: Chase Bank
I have had a free Chase checking account for almost two years now and am extremely impressed with this bank. The friendly, effecient tellers treat their customers respectfully. Within a week of opening the account they were calling me by my name. It is nice to see bankers getting back to old days and actually remembering customers names!
Another reason I love Chase is because the hours are convenient. They have locations inside of a major grocery chain which are open until 7:00 pm. Most of the regular locations are open until 5:30 pm but it's really nice not having to race to the bank after work trying to get there by 5:30. Not only is the bank open until 7:00, but if you make a deposit before 6:00pm it is usually credited the same day (unless it is an out of state check). What other bank offers this?
I feel that Chase is not just out to get you like some banks are. Here is an example: One Monday morning I looked at my account online and discovered that I had spent more than I thought I had over the weekend and my available balance was showing as negative 55.00. All the charges were small and there were probably at least ten of them for 5, 8, 10 dollars which could have meant 5 or 6 NSF charges. I borrowed 80.00 from a friend, deposited it around noon, Chase credited the cash immediately and THERE WERE NO NSF CHARGES! Most banks would have jumped at the chance to stick you with a couple hundred in NSFs but Chase was very fair, credited the cash and won my loyalty instead.

Great Bank
This review is for: Chase Bank
I have held a checking account with Chase (previously Washington Mutual) for seven years now. Currently I use the Chase bank located on Broadway in the San Francisco Marina district and my experiences have been very positive. For example, I have never had to stand in line for more than five minutes. Also, when I had questions about opening a savings account, or in regard to confusing charge on my monthly statement, someone took the time to immediately sit down with me and assist me with my needs. Great bank!

Love the Leisure Rewards.
This review is for: Chase Bank
I have had this bank account for four years. I originally chose this bank for it's convienent locaction to my home.
Overall I have had a positive experience with Chase Bank. The best thing about this bank is the Leisure Reward program that is connected to my debit card. I can earn points and use them on a variety of different items. The worst thing about this bank is the service fee for the savings account. I have had great customer service with this bank. I have lost my debit card at least two times and have been always able to reach a phone representative. Likewise when I have physically went into the bank the tellers and bankers have always been helpful and courteous. I take full advantage of the e-mail and on-line banking opportunities provided. I would and have recommened Chase bank to many a fellow co-worker and friend. I have had no problems with them thus far.

Rocky transition for California accounts
This review is for: Chase Bank
Chase has not done a good job transitioning California Wamu accounts to Chase. I opened my account in California and recently moved to Portland, Oregon. One day, I went to a chase ATM to deposit a check. I was unable to deposit it and thought there was a problem with the ATM. I went into the bank and was told that since I had a California account, I would have to make all deposits inside the bank. Not only do I have to come in, but they had to fedex my check to California to be deposited. This occasionally took 2 days before my deposit showed up on my account. I received several NSF charges because I did not plan on my deposit taking 2 days to go through. I was refunded the charges after a long wait on the phone. It will be several months before I will be able to deposit money in the ATM. You would think that a large corporation like Chase would be able to transition much more smoothly.

Not Impressed with Seattle's "New Old Bank"
This review is for: Chase Bank
I banked with Washington Mutual (WAMU) for several years prior to their collapse last year. I honeslty thought it would be impossible for me to dislike a bank more than I disliked WAMU. I was actually secretly pleased to see them self implode.
Over the years, WAMU charged me erroneously overdraft fees, desposited my paycheck into someone else's bank account, could not figure out why my card was being rejected due to an "address" issue, and when it was figured out they told me it would take, 24 hours, a week, two weeks, and 30 days (all with in 48 hours).
This does not even touch upon the problems I encountered when we attempted to refinance our home with them.
Needless, to say I was somewhat excited about the prospect of a new bank. Any optomism I had about Chase was quickly diminished when over Memorial Day weekend they began the process of moving accounts from WAMU to Chase. While I did know the change was coming, what I did not know was that I could not be able to transfer funds (online or in person), to manage my money in anyway, and that my debit card may, or may not, work during the process.
Following a lunch out, my husband's debit card, which had worked an hour early, suddenly didn't. When we called Chase they politely informed us "Sorry, it might be like that until the transfer is done". This might have not been so disconcerting if "done" was going to be in a couple hours, but "done" would be two days. "Sorry!"
I dismissed this instance as extremely poor planning and decided to see how things played out before making any firm judgements about Chase but it didn't take long for Chase to test my patience again.
A few weeks later I went into a branch near work to cash a check, after waiting in line I got to the cashier who promptly informed me that I need to go fill out a deposit slip because Chase is a "safer bank now!"
I asked her why I needed to be protected from people putting money INTO my account. Apparently they didn't cover that in her scripted response. She insisted that they couldn't just swipe my debit and have me enter my PIN like WAMU. So, I went back to the back of the line and waited again.
Seeing as WAMU never required me to have my account number, I didn't know it to put on the form.
When I got back to the front I ended up with the same cashier. I informed her I didn't have my account number, to which she cheerily responded "That's ok! Swipe your card!"
Fortunately, I appreciate a good dose of irony and managed to walk out without completely losing my cool.
A few weeks, later I received a letter from Chase stating that the had closed my access to my equity line. This fact alone didn't really bother me seeing as I don't use it. However, I have fantastic credit and I pay them interest on the remaining balance every month...so the move really seems to lack some business sense.
I have since read in the local and national news, that in several cases Chase has made up accusations against customers who's credit is being eliminated. I am not sure whether this has been entirely substantiated, but given my less than stellar experience in the past 3 months, and the recurring bad press, I don't think my relationship Chase is going to be a long one.
My husband and I have begun to discuss moving to a credit union, or a different bank in the coming year.
Not all my experience with chase has been bad however. The fees are certainly lower than they were with WAMU, and the website is nicer than WAMU's was as well. The mobile web applicaiton is excellent too.
However, I am not sure that this makes up for lousy customer service and assanine policies.
Over all, my experience with Chase is one of "be careful what you wish for". They're not worse than WAMU, but they're not any better.

So Satisfied with my Chase Bank Account!
This review is for: Chase Bank
I am thoroughly and completely satisfied with my Chase premier checking account. Not only is the staff super helpful, but I love that I have instant access to my account online 24.7! Plus, I can text the bank for my balance and I get it instantly on my phone! Very cool technological advancements like that make this the best banking option! Also, their online bill pay system is so easy to use and its totally green! Highly recommend!!

Switching to Chase was an awesome thing!!!
This review is for: Checking
My husband and I switched from Bank of America to Chase about two years ago. The switch was spurred on because of personal issues with our previous institution. Professionally speaking, however, we were very upset since we had a long term relationship with our previous bank through our checking accounts and we were offered such a high interest rate on our credit card account through Bank of America. We already had a Chase Visa and it seemed to be a logical switch. Since then, we have had nothing but great experiences. The customer service is awesome and every associate has been courteous and professional. The loan officer who opened our checking account was friendly and straight-forward. His manner put us both at ease and made the whole experience of switching financial institutions easier. I would describe both the customer service and the products as the best things about Chase. One draw-back has been in discussing obtaining an automobile loan for a new car purchase. Chase’s interest rate was higher than the car dealership. But we have to hand it to Chase they were honest and up-front that we would likely a better deal elsewhere. We would recommend using Chase to any and every one.

Overall great, don't like overdraft policy
This review is for: College Checking
The college checking account requires $25 to open it, however you do not have to have $25 in it all the time, which is much appreciated, being a college student and living off of loans and part time jobs. However, Chase banks overdraft fee is utterly rediculous in my opinion because I had overdrawn my account by a few cents and had an overdraft fee. The next day I went to the bank ATM and inserted $40 cash into the ATM, which should have immediately been credited to my account. However, because I was 3 minutes after 4:00 pm, they charged me another overdraft fee. The policy should be changed and Chase Bank has an archaic way of looking through their bank accounts, especially the college accounts, but they do give college accounts one waiver per year to waive all overdraft fees, which is nice. I have also had my pin stolen and items purchased off of the internet, and when I alerted Chase to this fact they canceled my account right away and sent me a new card, as well as investigated who had done it and refunded me my money back, all in a reasonable amount of time. Overall, I would recommend Chase bank and the college account to anybody and especially any college student looking for little to no fees associated with a bank account.

CHASE IS THE BEST!!!!
This review is for: Checking
I have had this account for almost three years and they are great! I got it because my mom also had an account there. The best thing about my account is the friendly customer service. They help me through anything and when I roll up to the bank some of the bank tellers know me by name. One time I forgot to pay my credit card payment because I had gone out of town and forgot about that payment. I came back a week after it was due and I get a phone call from the bank. They told me that they would give me another week to pay my credit card bill and I wouldn't get charged a late fee nor would It hit my credit that it was a late payment. The lady understood that I forgot because I was out of town and told me not to worry to just pay within that week and everything would be fine. I would recommend anyone to get this account because of the friendly customer service, the convienance of online bill pay, online account viewing and awesome credit card rates. I have almost no credit and my rate for my credit card isn't bad at all for a 19 year old with no piror history and they didn't nail me with late fees the one time I forgot to pay my bill. Also they have a rewards program that allows you to buy things such as I-pods and such just for using plastic instead of paper. It doesn't even have to be my credit card, my debit card also racks up points as well!!!

At least the card looked cool!
This review is for: Checking
I opened an account with Chase my Senior High school year and had it for about one year till I canceled it. I chose Chase since they seem to have the most ATMs in my area, and the ATms seemed really easy to use.
I really liked the design of the card, it displayed Arizona's baseball team, I always got compliments on it. They own the baseball stadium here in Az so it was pretty cool. That was all I really liked. The tellers always tok way too long with people at any of the branches so I tried to avoid the bank as much as possible by using ATMs when readily available.
The ATMs were easy to use, the card looked nice, that was probably the best things about chase.
the worst was the long, and even short lines that always took forever. The tellers weren't all that friendly in any of the ones I went to.
I never called chase and when I had a question I didn't like asking anyone because most of their employees always gave me some stupid look like I should know everything about my account already. i wasn't happy with the service but the card did its job, held money.
I would say chase isn't the bank to go to. I'd recommend Bank of America when it comes to a checking account. I wouldn't recommend chase because although it's only 25 dollars to open an account, it is hard to get a replacement card if you lose it, the account can cost you if you over draft, and it seems easier for people to use your account info and take out funds. I had three unauthorized purchases never brought to my knowledge while i was with them and they refused to do anything about it.

Was WAMU
This review is for: Checking
My husband and I had banked with WAMU for approximately 13 years before the switch to Chase occurred. In the 13 years we had this account, we had little to no troubles. We loved their wonderful customer service. We even had to experience a dealing with their fraud department when my debit/visa was stolen. They could not have been more accommodating and helpful. Just as the buy out by Chase was about to occur, everything went downhill very fast. I heard many rumors of bad experiences and poor customer service but had not yet experienced it myself. When a scheduled payment on my mortgage was paid one day early, causing my account to go into serious overdraft, they made little to no attempts to rectify the situation. Thus leaving me with hundreds in fees to swallow. We ended up switching the majority of our banking to a different bank. We however have kept the, now Chase, account open with a small balance to allow for our children to have access to funds when needed. Even with this new acquisition, I fear that the customer service that once was has still not returned. Recently, when cashing a check through a drive through I was asked to give my driver's license. Normal, absolutely. What was not normal however was to not only NOT receive it back, but when I immediately asked for it was told that the teller did not have it and nor did he ever have it. It is a strange bank, and I no longer trust it.

I love Chase Bank!
This review is for: Checking
Chase is in general an excellent bank. I inherited them by default -- they took over my mortgage lender, my credit card, and my savings/checking accounts -- from three separate companies, all about one year ago. And, I am impressed and quite pleased with their high-level of customer care/service, flexibility, availability, and knowledgeability about their products, particularly their checking account.
It's entirely free. There really are no strings attached; that's what I look for in a checking account. I do not have tons of money, but like all of us, I do use my checking to pay bills -- online and via checks.
Their web site is excellent; it shows all of my accounts on one page, including my credit card. And, whenever I have questions, they are very eager and good at answering questions in the branch, online, or via telephone.
So far, so good. Their online bill pay is phenomenal and saves me much time and money (no stamps, no trips to the post office) and payments arrive timely, as promised.
I had to expand into a business account recently for my personal business, and they were knowledgeable, having their business banking representative walk me through the dos and don'ts of keeping my bus/personal separate. They even offer invoicing on the business checking side. I highly recommend it.
Any time you can have a good relationship at a branch, and even with a corporate bank over all, I think that's a good thing.

Chase College Checking
This review is for: College Checking
I would say this is one of the best college checking accounts available out there. I have had this account for about 3 years and am completely satisfied. The ability to use free bill pay is such a plus. My parents have a chase account as well and transferring money is a breeze. Chase also automatically links your Chase Credit Cards so everything is on one page. I can see all my transactions and pay my credit card right away. Also chase is conveniently located in almost every Walgreen's store. And they seem to be on every corner, so ATMs are everywhere. When I leave for college, Chase ATM's are also aplenty even without any nearby Walgreen's. The worst thing about Chase is the customer service wait time. When I call in, it can take a while to get through to a representative. Ive read people have issues with fees but I've personally never came across that issue. Also right now they have a debit card promotion where random transactions can be paid for. They also have the best Rewards program out there right now with Chase Freedom. Right now you can use your Freedom card to get B1G1 movie tickets through Fandango. Who doesnt like fee tickets?? If you're looking for a checking account that is easy to use, and has a lot of features, I would definitely check out Chase College Checking.

Poor Customer Service, Inexcusable Banking Policies
This review is for: Checking
I have had this bank account since I moved to Chicago two years ago. I wanted a bank with a branch near me that also had nation wide branches for when I travel. When I first opened my account, it was fine, just a bank, nothing great, nothing terrible. However, when I had a dip in income about a year later, and subsequently dropped under several times, my account snowballed very quickly due to their $35 overdraft fees. I realize the account going under was my error, but the bank should be responsible for posting transactions on a timely basis (not two weeks later).
One time I went under by $1 and was charged $35, I had previously been told that any over draft fees for dips less than $5 could be removed, but when I went to the local branch, I was met with an extremely unhelpful and unfriendly employee. She was adamant that there was nothing she could do since it was not a bank error. I told her was I was told before about charged under $5, but she refused to help. I left the bank in a terrible mood, and honestly it ruined my whole week.
However, I can give one story on good customer service. Another time I went to complain about fees, this time due to the bank automatically transferring money from my checking to savings. It was a different branch, and the girl fixed the error right away. She even removed the automatic transfer service on my account, and assured me I would not be penalized financially for having done so. Lesson learned, shop around for the best branch!
Over all, I would not recommend this bank. They are a big corporation who is only concerned about making millions, not about their customer’s livelihood. You would be much better off banking with a small local bank.

Chase Premier Checking
This review is for: Premier Checking
I've been with Chase for about 5 years now. Originally I only had a regular checking account, but when I signed my mortgage with them they upgraded my savings and checking accounts free, since I had a larger monetary commitment with them.
I mainly like their web banking services. They have a nice site that they update fairly frequently, and all my accounts show up in one location. I can manage all my accounts, pay bills, transfer funds, check rates, wire transfers, setup auto payments, and lots more very easily.
I have one account manager I always go to at my local branch, and he is awesome. Always helps me out right away and clears up any issues I might have. He'll even reverse overdraft fees for me on the rare occasion I get one, and I don't even ask him to! I have since gone back to him for all my banking needs, including credit cards, auto loan, mortgage, multiple checking and savings accounts, investments, and business accounts.
I would and often do recommend Chase for anyone looking for a good bank. I have been very satisfied with their customer support, customer service, and their online banking. Having almost all my accounts in one place definitely makes managing my money much easier.

Unhappy with the transition
This review is for: Checking
I had an account with Washington Mutual opened in 2001, before they were absorbed by Chase. I had absolutely no problems with Wamu. Their customer service was great, any issues I had were quickly dealt with, their fees were reasonable, and the perks were great.
Since converting to Chase, all of that has been taken away. I've had multiple problems with my account. They've sent through online billpay payments twice in a row with no authorization from me (this just happened to occur when they were doing conversion from Wamu to Chase online banking systems), then dinged me with multiple overdrawn account fees due to their mistake. Upon calling Chase, I received poor customer service, was told multiple different stories from each customer service representative, and ultimately was left with a double bill and what I felt to be multiple unreasonable fees for something that wasn't even my fault. To top it off my debit card perks have been taken from me. The transition to Chase has been rough, and it's only getting rougher.
I'm currently closing my accounts with Chase and moving to another bank. I hate that a bank that I loved so much was swallowed by a bank that's given me such a poor experience so far.

Chase Bank Checking Account Review
This review is for: Checking
I have had a Chase Bank checking account since before it was called Chase; I opened my account when it Chase was still called Bank One. I was away at college and I only had a savings account back home. A roommate of mine told me about Bank One’s free checking for students, with no minimum balance. I decided that this was what I wanted/needed.
Since I have had the account I have been generally satisfied. I had some issues with my account balance in the past. These issues included insanely expensive overdraft, and extended overdraft fees. For example when I was still a college student I went over my account balance by about 10 dollars, but I had made about 5 different $1 dollar and $2 dollar transactions. So instead of just having one overdraft fee for $39 and some change, I had five $39 overdraft fees that totaled approximately $120! I was outraged. I can easily say that the overdraft fees are probably the worst part of my banking experience with Chase.
The overall best thing/s about Chase Bank checking is the options that are available to me. I still have the free checking account I signed up for in college. I also took advantage of the Chase Leisure Rewards program. For a $25 dollar annual fee, I became a member and for every $1dollar I spend I get 4 points. Those points can be redeemed for gift cards, movie passes, airline miles and even cash.
My experience with customer service has always been pleasant. I have spoken with many customer service reps who were able to reverse a lot of the overdraft fees thus saving me tons of money.
I would definitely recommend Chase Bank Checking to others, in fact I already have.

The greatest account for college students
This review is for: College Checking
I go to Purdue and I opened an account with Chase as soon as I moved to campus because of the convenient location and the fact that there are tons of Chase ATM throughout campus and West Lafayette. At first when I opened the account, I had a Chase workplace account. Then about 3 months later, I noticed that they started to charge me a $10 monthly fee. I was like, what the heck is going on here? So I went in and talked with a banker; she was a really nice lady. She explained that a chase workplace account required a monthly direct deposit otherwise there would be a $10 monthly service fee. She refunded my money and changed my account to the College checking.
I love this account so much! This is the perfect bank account for college students. It has no monthly fee, no minimum balance, a debit card which rewards you with points redeemable for gift cards and such for every $1 you spent, and also occasional promotions like get $50 when you refer a friend, etc. Chase also offers you a security protection for any overdrafts. So they will automatically withdraw money from your credit card or any other account you assigned in time of overdraft so that you won't get charged the overdraft fee. I really love this account, but it would be better if it gives you some kind of interest as it currently offers none. But hey, you can't really ask too much, can you?

Long term Customer
This review is for: Checking
I opened my account with Washington Mutual when I first moved to California seven years ago. For the most part I have been satisfied with it. I chose Washington Mutual after researching all the banks in the area, including the local banks. Washington Mutual was the only one at the time offering free checking. I did feel pressure to open a savings account at the same time, but only wanted a checking account. I eventually opened a savings account and a CD with the bank.
Because I still had another account at a different bank, but one with no local branches, I did not have problems with the hold policy, though I know some people do. The best thing about the account is I can use other banks' ATMs and they will not charge me for it. I do have to pay the other banks' fee, however.
I have had no problems since the bank has been taken over by Chase, though I am a little scared that the terms and policies will change drastically in the near future. For now, I am content with the bank.
I would recommend Chase to users who travel a lot and need access to ATMs in a lot of different places. Otherwise, I would advise users to look into their local banks.

Not-so-happy with the Change from WAMU
This review is for: Savings
Nine months ago my thirteen-year-old son opened an account with WAMU as a means for saving a portion of his allowance. I was delighted. I had visions of him learning the importance of spending less than he makes, mowing lawns and accumulating wealth to pay his way through college. Okay, maybe not super-realistic visions, but happy thoughts none the less. All went well for many months. I have a checking account with WAMU, so whenever my son requested it, I would electronically transfer some money to his savings account. We're not super generous with allowance, but still, he managed to accumulate thirty to forty dollars. We opened the account with the understanding that it didn't pay much interest, but it was a safe place, away from the temptation to spend, and there were no account fees. We were told that the transition to Chase would be seamless and Chase would be honoring all the terms of WAMU accounts. Imagine my surprise, when I open an account statement and notice that Chase has begun charging five dollars a month in account fees. This has been going on for three months. My son's little nest egg is diminished by half! Well, needless to say, he has learned a valuable lesson. Don't trust banks! They will change the terms of your account with little notice and no provocation. We will go back to our credit union.

Free money is great, but with a catch
This review is for: Checking
Chase is pretty decent when it comes to customer service. The online tools are also very good, but they're just a little to tricky with their fees. They don't let your account go under and then really ram you with overage fees or anything, but they require a minimum amount of check card usages, and then if you don't meet that minimum they charge you six dollars per month. I've had the account for almost a year now, probably ten months, and it's my second account. I use it for all my non-necessary purchases, basically for entertainment, and sometimes for groceries and gas etc. Pretty much all non-bill stuff. They roped me into opening an account with a free 100 dollars, but the catch is you have to use the debit card at least five times a month. I've forgotten a few months, and I got charged a six dollar service fee for that. One month I didn't have six dollars, so they just took what was left in the account. I've had the account for almost a year, but the thing that kind of bothers me is that the minimum usage rule never goes away for the life of the account. Oh well, I guess I'm still in the positive for the account, so it's good as long as you watch it. It's just a pain in the rear to juggle two accounts, so I would suggest if you were going to open it to make it your primary account and make sure you use the debit card enough to avoid the fee.

Flawless Service
This review is for: Checking
Moving back to the deep south after living many years in the northeast, I chose to open a checking account at my family's branch. I'd read once somewhere that it takes twice as much time to do something in the south because everybody talks to everybody and everybody knows somebody that you know.
Once I'd adapted to that, I realized how comforting it is to have service providers who genuinely seem to care about you. And this has been true for me with my Chase account for almost 10 years.
Now I do almost everything through direct deposit or ATMs, but I always know that if I have a question or a problem, it will be handled with the same service consideration as always.
The best thing now is the ATM innovation that allows checks to be deposited without deposit slips or envelopes.
The only bad thing is the occasional phone call trying to sell me an investment opportunity at the bank.

Free when you open a Chase business account
This review is for: Premier Checking
As a longtime WaMu customer, I was a bit wary of Chase at first and pulled my own personal accounts, but after bouncing between two or three other banks and being unsatisfied with any of them, I found myself back at Chase after receiving a promotional coupon good for $200 free when opening a new Chase business account. I am a small business owner and the offer appealed to me, so I took advantage of it--and when I arrived in the branch, I was told that as a business account holder I was entitled to open a Premier Checking account for free (usually the account requires a sizable minimum balance in order to avoid bank charges). I took them up on the offer and have been exceedingly happy with the checking account. Items post quickly, the rewards options are excellent (I personally use the Continental Airlines OnePass debit card, which, aside from a small annual fee, is great), and Chase is more than happy to set up overdraft protection for you using a credit card or savings account with only a minimal fee. You also get a free small safety deposit box just for having a Premier account (if your branch doesn't have safe deposit boxes, they can set you up at a brancht that does). Plus, as someone who lives in New York City, there are branches galore, and for the most part my experience with Chase bankers has been positive--everyone seems friendly and eager to help. I'm a surprisingly satisfied customer and have no plans to switch again!

It's been a rough transition.
This review is for: Checking
I had two accounts with Washington Mutual. One was personal opened in California, and the other was the Joint account I opened in Utah. The Utah account was the first opened. One of the reasons we chose to bank with Washington Mutual (now Chase) is that it is a nationwide bank with offices everywhere which is one of the best things.
I've had the Joint account for 8 years roughly. The second for a year.
When we moved to California, we kept the same account for this same reason. We saw no reason to change. Small things would come up though. When I go into the bank they can't find me by name or SSN so I have to remember and give them the account number, and without fail, they'll have started looking it up by my name and I get asked "Was this account opened in California?" Then I remind them they have to look it up by account number. That's one problem. With this transition to Chase, I had hoped that the unifying of information would make it easier, but so far, it's been harder. Now I have to fill out a bank check just to withdraw cash instead of the standard withdrawl slip. Deposits take a week to clear because New Chase has to send it to Old Chase or something like that (at least that's what the tellers keep telling me).
To top it off I requested a debit card for the Joint account, and was very specific to tell them it was for the joint account, and they sent me one for the personal account. I've been meaning to close that one for some time now. And when I used it for the first time, it almost resulted in an overdraft fee, because I thought I was depositing and withdrawing from one account when really it was the other. On top of that, the new site chase.com has glitches. It used to show my personal account along with my 3 credit card accounts, and now it shows my joint account. I still have to log onto the wamu site to get access to my old accounts, and I'm very concerned that they won't ever correctly merge the two.
It's more than a little frustrating that they can't get things right after all this time. A big bank like this should have their stuff together.
I wouldn't recommend this bank to anyone, but I would warn them off either. I'm sure new accounts won't have these problems.

A Better way to Bank
This review is for: Better Banking-Checking
After moving recently, I had to relocate my bank as well. After using a small independent bank for over 14 years I was not looking forward to the process. Quite by accident, I had to go to a Chase Bank near my office. I was immediately stuck by the difference of the Chase branch and the experiences I had with my other bank.
The first thing I noticed is it was much more relaxed, I was greeted as I entered the lobby. The staff was professional and courteous. I inquired about new accounts and was given a brochure that clearly explained all my options and an employee answered the additional questions I had.
When it came time to open my new account several weeks ago, I visited a Chase branch near my home. Much to my surprise, I received the same wonderful treatment. Using a larger national bank offers me several benefits that were not available at my former bank. Security had been an issue at my old bank and the Chase employees went into great detail on how my account would be protected. Their systems had my online account set up before I even got home. Extra benefits included the Chase Reward Programs, Debit Card Sweepstakes, Teen bank accounts, extended banking hours, multiple national locations (now including all the Wamu branches), brokerage services and many other services offered at no cost or a very reasonable cost.
To date I have not had a negative experience to report. I received a wonderful thank you note from my personal banker, all my documents have been received in a timely manner and they are even processing the paperwork to have my Social Security check transferred to my new Chase account. I highly recommend Chase Bank to everyone.

Chase saved the day!
This review is for: Savings
Many years ago I had a checking and savings account with my local Chase bank. The Credit Union I was affiliated with, lured me away from Chase with over inflated promises. One day I was really in a bind and I needed help. It was the day before my daughters wedding and the flowers came in wilted and brown. She was devastated. Having spent my limit on the wedding already I did not have the extra cash needed to buy more flowers. I dug into the safe and pulled out a savings bond, and then proceeded to my credit union to get it cashed. They said they could not cash it for me. My heart sunk. I did not know what to do. Then I remembered that many many years ago Chase bank cashed a savings bond for me. I went back to that bank ashamed that I ever left, told them my situation, and humbly asked them if they could cash a savings bond for a non-member. They were wonderful to me. They cashed my savings bond and saved my daughters wedding. When they asked why I left, I could not even think of a good reason why.
Now I am a customer once again and I must say that the service and the atmosphere is impeccable. There is coffee waiting for me at the door, and I am greeted with a warm hello. I have had questions about finances and about saving for the future. And each question was answered in a warm helpful manner. I recommend this bank to everyone. Customer service is what counts, It is nice to be with a bank with a heart.

good for simple banking needs
This review is for: Checking
I use the debit/checking account for all my banking needs, and I have never really encountered any problems with the account.
I originally chose Chase in college when I needed a bank that provided service in both Texas and New York. I have stayed with Chase mainly out of convenience. Now, I live in Brooklyn and work in Manhattan, and I rely on the fact that there is a Chase bank or ATM on practically every other corner in this city.
Also, I like the fact that I rack up airline miles when I use my debit card as a "credit" card.

College Student Figuring out Banking
This review is for: Checking
As a full time college student living in LA, there is always a lot going on. The last thing I need is a bank rep giving me trouble when all I want is to deposit a check. I had a Washington Mutual account for a long time (2 years), until Chase bought them out. After the buy out, I was optimistic the service would improve, but it has not.
My last trip to the bank left me somewhat stunned. I felt like the staff was treating me with less respect because I had a college student's savings--not a multimillionaire's in my checking account.
While I have much to say about the unfortunate service I have received--which I feel is due to the changed policies--I must say there are a few things I still like about this account. For one, being able to view my bank statements online and see how much is in my limited budget pool at any time is a huge thing for me. Secondly, even though it was while WaMu was still independent, I received a few overdraft charges which were forgiven when I made a miscalculation.
As far as advice as to whether or not to choose to bank with Chase: I'm probably just down on my luck as far as service in my area goes. I would definitely give a big thumbs up, however, if you want to be able to view your statements/pay for bills online. The Chase/WaMu online resources are great.

Mourning the loss of a bank
This review is for: Checking
I have had my account with Chase since they took over WaMu. I’ve had my bank account for about a year now and I picked WaMu because of their easy to use website. I have to admit that even though Chase seems to be pretty widespread, they aren't as first-class as Washington Mutual. Sure they merged and now Washington Mutual IS Chase but I miss Washington Mutual’s friendly faces and colorful clothing. Chase reminds me of a generic government office similar to that of a post office or dmv and just makes me want to change banks! My last visit I noticed that the security guard was no longer greeting customers the way he used to do. He merely looked on as if disgusted by his job. He used to have a friendly smile on his face when I would come in to cash my check. I also heard that they are changing the bank back to it’s old bullet-proof windows and taking away the personal experience you get with each teller. I believe that being able to talk to a teller face to face is great customer service and made me feel more like a customer and less like a number. Chase is trying to improve WaMu’s ways and even though most of the employees are the same, the fees and incentives have certainly changed. I wouldn’t recommend this bank to anyone I don’t like their customer service and believe you can find a better bank elsewhere.

Unreasonable rules and overdraft policies
This review is for: Checking
I have had a checking account with Chase bank for 1 year and I originally got it to have a bank up at college. I had previously banked with Baker Boyer National Bank, a bank local to my hometown of Walla Walla, Washington but since they offered no branches up at school I decided to try out Chase. I'm not going to lie, while I initially thought the account would accommodate all of my needs in the end the bank really was a let down. Maybe it was because I was spoiled by my bank at home but Chase was very unreasonable in my mind. Don't get me wrong, the people were friendly for the most part, they offered an online banking option which was very convenient and the bank's location was on my way home from work so no complaints there. It was one instance that put me out with Chase. My cable company charged me twice once, as soon as I realized my account was overdrawn I checked into why and it was because of the double charge. I immediately called the cable company and put in a request for them to fix the problem however the funds could not be credited back to my account until the following business day. I went into the bank to explain what had happened and make sure I wasn't going to get a overdraft fee of $32 since the account actually was only overdrawn one penny. I went in and explained and told them the funds would be back the next day and they acknowledged that the reinburstment was pending in their system however they refused to remove the overdraft fee. Again, maybe I'm just spoiled by my local bank but if that would have happened there they would have understood and remitted the charge but not Chase they made it stick. That's when I decided to stop banking with them. So it really depends on your situation I suppose but I'd rather do my baking with a bank that cares about their customers and are understanding and helpful rather than a bank that's trying to stick it to the man.

Old Reliable
This review is for: Checking
One year ago I decided to apply for a Chase checking account after the Washington Mutual branch near my house closed down. Conveniently Chase absorbed WaMu a few months ago, and my credit cards and accounts have been consolidated into one bank.
What attracted me to Chase though was their expansion throughout the United States. No matter I was I could always find a Chase bank with a Chase ATM. It made worry about ATM fees less of a hassle, and it also meant that speaking with a personal accountant would be just a ride down the block.
Chase isn't too different from any other bank. Their fees seem absurd, but it's what I've come to expect nowadays. As long as you stay out of negative balance Chase won't give you many problems.
The most appealing aspect of Chase from my personal experience has been the accountants. They are easy to relate to, and get along with.
In Chase's downtown Louisville branch a personal accountant named Kyle offered to drive me to my car which had been impounded earlier in the day before taking care of some credit card fees for me.
The worst thing about Chase is its nature. They want to get money from you, and they're going to make sure that the accountants don't have too much swing in what you're getting back.
Unless you're stapled into one home and don't have much of a need for the expansive services of a Chase bank I definitely recommend J.P. Morgan's checking account service. They're broad, reliable, and have unbeatable in-person customer service from my experience.

So far so good
This review is for: Checking
I was switched to Chase recently when they took over Washington Mutual. I have to say it is a welcome change. Washington Mutual had become everything they originally were rebelling against. Obviously it was a desperate bis to keep afloat but everything from their customer service to their penalties and fees got worse.
Chase steps in and almost immediately rights the ship. The fees that had been hiked up have been brought back down, the customer service is excellent. They even took it upon themselves to suggest I switch the checking account I was enrolled in because their regular checking offered everything I needed and was free with free checks too.
I'm very pleased and look forward to opening other accounts with them. I think I might move my business account over to them too.
I am especially glad to see their employees feeling good about their jobs again. I recall a foreboding sense of despair when the same location was WaMu. Now it is as if the clouds have cleared and the sun is beaming in on them.

Great Account
This review is for: College Checking
The Chase Bank college checking account is a great account for a college student to have. I have had my account through Chase for 2 years now and I couldn't be happier. When I signed up for this account they were running a special where if you referred a friend who opened an account both you and you friend got a $50 bonus, which was a great way to add a little bit more money to my account, since I did it through a friend. I used the location in Valparaiso Indiana. Every time I visited the branch I was always greeted with friendly service and tellers who remembered who I was. In my area Chase had a good presence and I could always find an ATM that was nearby. Chase Bank also runs great promotions, like where they might even pay your debit tab, on them. Since this is an account geared toward college students the fees were extremely low. The only time I was ever charged was for non-Chase ATM withdraws. The only drawback is that the account earns no interest, which isn't really unexpected. I would recommend this account to any college student who is looking for a nice friendly bank that offers an affordable checking account.

Could be better
This review is for: College Checking
I signed up for a Chase Account because my employer at the time only used Chase checks (and no direct deposits.) I never had a bank account before so I was convinced to sign up with Chase by one of the employees. My original intention was to cash the check and put half in the account but I wasn't allowed too because of some mishap with my check, I had no access to my check for 3 weeks. I've had it (the chase account) for a year and I can't wait to close it. For starters, Chase is not located near me at all so whenever I have a deposit to make (which is quite often) I have to go to Washington Mutual or drive 1/2hr to the nearest bank. When I go to WAMU it takes weeks to go through (especially if you have multiple deposits/checks). Although, that should be fixed at the end of July when the merge of WAMU and Chase finish. The best thing about it, is that I don't have any fees and their customer service is excellent. I am tied to this bank because my employer (who decided direct deposit should be mandatory) has insisted on me using Chase as a bank for easier transactions. Although, it's inconvienent, I have no real qualms with the bank.
