Associated Bank - the pros and cons
This review is for: Associated Bank
Associated Bank is an effective bank as far as banking goes. However, there are several things about this bank that I believe are going down hill. First, their locations seem to be becoming scarce. The town that I live in had an Associated Bank, which is where I originally opened up my bank account. I chose this bank because it was in town and conveniently close to my job and home. I had only had my bank account for a few years when the branch in my town abruptly closed down. Now, I have to drive 45 mins to get to the nearest Associated Bank. But, perhaps the worst thing about this bank are the overdraft fees. Speaking from experience, if you overdraft on a checking account, they charge you roughly $40 PER item! Even if you spend $1 on an item when you've overdrafted - you get charged $40! It's completely ridiculous. The bankers and tellers are of no help to this either - they will not refund your money. Regardless of the negatives, I do have to say that the customer service is relatively positive. Perhaps the customer service is the best thing about this bank. Every time I have gone into the bank, I was always greeted with a "nice to see you again!" or a "good morning!" As the days went on, I began to develop more and more personal relationships with a few of the tellers. They would ask me how my kids were doing and such. Overall, I do believe this bank does it's job - which is to make money for themselves. Even though it may come at your expense (i.e. overdraft fees), they do effective banking. So, if you are good at managing your money, I do recommend this bank - they have great customer service.
