This review is for: American Federal Savings Bank
The first checking account I ever had was with American Federal in Helena. I got it has a teen, when I had to have my mother on the account in order to sign up, about 10 years ago. The reason we chose this bank is because my mother already had an account with them. The account they signed me up for paid some interest, but there was a $0.15 fee for each check that I wrote, a hefty sum for a young teen who made 5 dollars an hour. I never overdrew my account or did anything else negative as a customer. The bank was neutral towards me, at best. The main branch closed early each day, which was frustrating when trying to go by the bank after work. The best thing about this bank is their location, as they now have several locations around town. However, I would recommend going with another bank, as many better options are available in Helena, especially the Helena Community Credit Union. American Federal has mediocre account options and unimpressive customer service. When I closed out my account they were very rude to me, which further convinced me that I had made the right decision. My mother has also closed her account with them since then.
