E*TRADE Bank - MaxRate Checking

  I was looking for a free checking account that would be easy to manage, earns interest and has low fees. I chose to open an E*Trade Max Rate checking account and have not been disappointed. It was simple to open, easy to use online, includes free online bill pay and allows for instant transfers to my other E*Trade acccounts (IRAs, Savings, Brokerage, etc.) Also, it reimburses you for withdrawals from any ATM in the the U.S. A few caveats: 1) It is only free with direct deposit 2) It earns marginal interest (0.05%) unless you have $5,000+ in the account and then it earns a more substantial 0.75%. I suggest opening an E*Trade savings account as well which currently earns 1.45% interest.
